Re: four months in NYC

Are these dates of availability or non-availability?

• I’m available in January 2009 until and including Tuesday 27th.
• February is good from Wednesday 10th until and including Friday 20th.
• Then I enter the zone of re-enfatherment, which will have certainly ended by a date in early April.

So my preference (for drinking up my port!) is to do the Graham in January, classic years of T&F&W in mid-February, and the 1977 in mid-April.

The only Fridays and Saturdays for which I am currently unavailable are 1/31. 3/6, and 4/17.

I figure that we've all got obligations, potentially as yet unscheduled, which will require extensive updates to this as time goes on :)

Eep! Sounds like my trip out there is going to hit a dead zone. I'm only in NYC the latter half of the last week in February, and am really only easily available for a tasting on that Friday (the 27th, as noted in the list). :(

We're still early in the planning. that 77 is still slated for that time-frame :) Everyone keeps emailing me availability tho. I have to check they don't mind showing up on the chart above...

My january is starting to fill up, so if folks could post the dates they are available and would like to have a tasting (for the next few months) we could find ideal times. After a few dates are picked, we can decide which tastings fit the crowd best.

OK folks, I see a few tasting dates coming together, provided we are all OK with a february memory lapse...

Jan 3 (tentative maturation tasting) - 3 babykillers
Feb 6 - 4 portheads
Feb 7 - 4 winos
Feb 13 (tentative Graham's) - 4 oenophiliacs
Feb 20 - 4 bottle-poppers.

Much as I love port and the company of the New York port fanatics, I can't muster the stamina or will power for more than one tasting in any four week period. It takes me at least two days to recover from our typical event.

So that means it would be more efficient to have tastings on consecutive days, so that fewer days are spent in recovery? OK, works for me.

Re: four months in NYC - DATES

Post by SushiNorth »

Command decision:
Sat Jan 3 -- Maturation Tasting

Sat Feb 7 -- Graham's Tasting

Fri, Feb 27 -- 77's

Sat, Apr 18 -- Classic years

That gets us a good mix (at least one friday), ensures some time between tastings, and is convenient for a few visitors.
The trouble, of course, is that as this started as a way to drink JDaw1's wine, he isn't available for the second two. Jdaw - Maybe you'll be released on good behavior for a night or two?

• Sat 3rd Jan is good.
• Sat 18th April is good.
• But 27th Feb is right in the zone no can do.
• And I’m in England on 7th February.

jdaw1, given that much of the port is yours -- and thus we ought to plan around your schedule -- would it make sense to have either the 77 or the grahams, and not both?

If the dates can be fitted around me, more the merrier. If not, then I guess other tastings could substitute.

OK, let's try that again, then. We're going to move a few of these around.

Jan 3rd is up in the air, there's talk of combining with g-man's proposed Fonseca 77 "verification" the preceding weekend. Please keep the 3rd penciled in til we get it finalized.

Feb 7th please warm up on your own for... Friday Feb 13th which is the preferred date for Graham's.

Saturday, April 18th is still a go. We'll likely keep this as the classic years tasting for now.

Fri, Feb 27th -- I'd like to do something. We have a visitor in town, so let's consider at least a nice dinner with some port on the menu. If jdaw can join us to celebrate his refathering, great, if not we'll toast for him.

We'll likely move the 77 out to May or such, thus spreading out the calendar a bit.
