Croft book

Last Wednesday, I went to the TFP offices in VNG with Axel and his friend, Thomas Kern, who is the German Consul in Porto, and anything but the rigid bureaucrat one might expect from someone in that position.

Aside from being very well entertained, we were each given a copy of a recently published book, simply titled 'Croft Port'

This hardback book, which runs to nearly 100 pages, has no price on the fly leaf, so I assume it is only intended for free distribution. It is a very good read, not least because it does not attempt to airbrush the more embarassing episodes out of history, and contains a lot of fascinating information, both historical and contemporary.

Beg, grovel, whatever it takes - every serious port drinker should get a copy!

Hey Tom,

good idea. I am expecting a parcel from TFC soon, so I could ask them to send me a couple of books which I could forward at the October tasting or Michael (at a good glass of Port at my house). Please forward wishes, if you desire a copy (I guess the fee would be up to 10 EUR).

I got the following email from Croft today.

"Dear Sir,
It is of course available to be bought. I have copied our Croft Shop into this email and one of my colleagues will be able to take an order. If not, we may ask you to carry out a bank transfer for the total. The cost of the book is €20.

Kind regards"

Axel,

the effect of your efforts should hurt them. As a balance for PiPo.

I have learned today that the Croft book is to be followed by one for Taylor - publication is expected before the end of the year.

The printed a book around 1992 for their birthday. Last year they told me that Fonseca is already in the pipeline, but it appears that the Croft book was ready earlier.

Nope, most of the TFC-guys are on leave at present.

I will keep you informed.
