Lagrima is a the sweetest type of inexpensive white Port. Meant to be served well chilled, it works best as an apertiff. While a small glass on a hot day can be refreshing, it's quite sweet and I'm not fond of more than that in one sitting.

I quite like a lagrima used as the basis for a Port & Tonic as I find the sweetness of the port offsets nicely the bitterness of the tonic.

I’ve only the Ramos Pinto Lagrima but found it a more convincing drink than the dry White Ports. After-all, if Port has only two duties; to be red and sweet, then at least the Lagrima gets half marks!

I did think I posted a TN about it, but I can’t seem to find it. The following is the basic note I kept for my own use.
In the decanter, light golden colour. In the glass (especially chilled), it is significantly lighter and straw-like. Non-refrigerated, the nose is horrific. Cheap, sweet Chardonnay. Overpowering. In the mouth: hit of the cheap Chardonnay; lots of spirit; long finish of lychees and vanilla takes over. Cool, the nose is more subdued. Reminiscent of Champagne [sic   ]. In the mouth, there a little spirit and long finish of lychees and vanilla.

I like my Portonic better with Dry White, but will make it here with anything I can get my hands on, which usually isn't much.

I don't like the Lagrima's much, too sweet for my taste.
