In the 2007 declarations thread, Ronnie asked if anyone knew why the Pisca is not being bottled until later in the year.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I think that the Pisca is another of Dirk's experiments to make a vintage port which is a selection of grapes, made to age over the long term but with a touch of additional barrel age before bottling.

I'm not certain of the differences, but from my one opportunity to taste the wine it was rather good.

Yes, I also heard he's ageing it in pipas, which is very unusual for vintage ports. Hopefully, I'll be able to taste it later this year.

I've already had a sample of it, and I believe that the samples I was tasting were all bottles approved for release this year. After all, if it's not being bottled this year then why release cask samples for tasting? Wouldn't it be better to wait until next year to do that if you're not going to bottle it until next year?

I have two samples of it and saving it for the Niepoort tasting Nov 27th, where Dirk is also present. I am definitely planning to get more info from him about this.

No because the major publications are reviewing them now and to be included in that review samples have a deadline to be sent, so they can be included in the articles. Otherwise they won't make the review and then not reviewed at all, or for a long period after.
