Almost all I've tried are yelling that they're too young still - maybe August 2012..?

A mini horizontal from 1982 would be an interesting adventure - a much neglected vintage..

I suspect we would struggle for many from 1982. Mention of 2012 does prompt a thought though - should we plan now a tasting to celebrate the Olympics. Perhaps a wine from Olympic years (Winter & Summer - although split games is a recent phenomenon).

An Olympic vertical would be quite a challenge - 1928, '32, '36 & '56 would be the difficult years..

I have Croft, Eira Velha & Noval from '82; Delaforce is quite often seen, and the popular SQ's such as Vargellas, Bomfim and Malvedos were all made that year.

The split actually makes it harder, because you'll need 2002 and 2006 to cover the new Winter games cycle since the split.

I guess Tom is right, we should rather concentrate on a 1982 horizontal, I should have somewhere here in my flat a Delaforce 1982 (if I can find it ;-((). Also I have Ferreira 1982 which i would need to bring over from my cellar in Germany. This is also possible if we want to proceed. There maybe only issues if we want to do the 1982 horicontal in August since I am not sure if I will be in London 24th - 28th.

Still I fear I may sneak in when Tom is not watching another Warre Cavadinha 1987 to correct the impression of the corked bt.

I am sure he will be happy to try/drink the wine again

I like the idea of an Olympic Offline in 2012 - but would not consider it necessary to try and have a bottle from every vintage year. I think it would be perfectly acceptable to simply say that every wine must come from a vintage which was an Olympic year.

I've also said in the Offline thread that I like the idea of a 1982 tasting as a theme for August - but I don't have any and would need to adopt or buy one.

Please note that Americans will not be permitted to taste wines from 1980 at the Olympic Off-line.

Sadly, I no longer own any Malvedos, Vargellas nor Bomfim for 1987, but can confirm that they were all lovely, really lovely. I do have a bottle of Roeda and two halves of Cavadinha bought at Oporto Airport.

Michael's tasting note on the Warre's Warrior and recent experience with an elderly Sandeman ruby reserve has reminded me that I was serious when some time ago I suggested an offline to taste through a variety of ruby reserves. I have a suspicion that these ports represent a very good QPR and offer a wine which has an under-appreciated ability to mature and improve.
