2007 Niepoort Pisca Vintage Port
Posted: 14:07 Mon 30 Nov 2009
Tasted within the Niepoort Range on Nov 27th with Dirk Niepoort:
Very intense structure, dark red in colour. Extremely fruity nose with a huge amount of blackberries. Chocolate showes fruit, chocolate and some acidity. Very few tannins are present. Long aftertaste with chocolate and red fruit. Nice, but not one for the ages.

Background: Pisca is a small area that produces grapes which are used for Niepoort for a very long time. In 2003 Dirk bought the area and replanted a lot. 2007 is the first Pisca produced. It spent and still spends (since it is not bottled yet*) time in smaller casks rather than big vats only.
* IVDP regulations say that a VP needs to be bottled from July 1st of the second year until June 30th of the third year after the harvest.
