Someone has just given me a bottle of Judges Vintage Character Port by Peatling & Sons in Bury St Edmunds.

They claim it is pre 1985.

It does not have a driven cork and the contents look pretty cloudy through the light green glass.

Anyone know what this stuff is?

Having examined all the evidence, including the hidden clues, I think this is a bottle of slightly cloudy, possibly pre-1985, Judge's Vintage Character Port bottled by Peatling & Sons in Bury St Edmunds, in a light green bottle.

Am I close?

Do I win 1st prize?

Thankyou for your invaluable input Sherlock

There's no snow on your roof is there!!

What I was meaning to ask....What is Judges? I have never heard of this label and wondered what I might find inside...please do not say port as by looking at it I would guess it has seen better days...if there were any for such a product.

Vintage Character is the old name for what is now termed Ruby Reserve. I've had some decently drinkable bottles of 20+ year old ruby reserve but never a shocker that has needed to be poured down the drain.

The only thing to do is to take one for the team - open it and see what you think!
