1970 Warre

W70: suddenly realised that I hadn’t drunk Warre in far too long, and that my vitamin-W levels were flashing critical. Note to self: must drink more Warre.
Decanted 15:30, fresh from the basement so a little cool. Decanter-priming sample 60% opaque, and a glorious mature-port red. Nose closed. Taste starts with strawberries, a little heat mid-palate, and sweetness, lightly strawberry flavoured, lingers into great length. A good start.

Ok. I've left you all hanging. Let's just say my husband's a good man. Decants 40-year-old port on a random Wednesday evening. Licorice in the nose. Boysenberry in the mouth, lingering into cherries, and a touch of sweet maple. Mmmmm. Deeeelish!

Later: the strawberries have been joined by cherries, and the heat has moved forward to the tip of the tongue. But still, as the Supreme Commander says, delicious.
I’ve never had a boysenberry. Am I missing something important?

Are they necessarily distinct? Especially in the case of any big shipper’s 1970?
