Vintage Oddities at 30: NYC Nov 14 2010.
Tasting Review, 1975 Ferreira, 1983 Niepoort, 1984 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim, Organization, Placemats

Purchased recently by dolcetours at a NY retailer and double decanted prior to the tasting. Cork came out intact (though it didn't survive the tasting). This bottle was the only one entirely finished by the end of the night, and it is safe to say that it was the overall favorite.

my favorite of the night.

dark garnet with a slight browning around the rim.

A bit muted on the nose at first, but some sweet wet tobacco comes up with some red berries.

hard to describe the fruit except to say that there's alot of red fruit in this one with a touch of fresh ground cumin seeds with a nice pipe smoke taste.

the tannins are still apparent but fully matured and adds to the spice.

coats the mouth and throat going down.

The finish does end a bit thin, but a fine drinking port.

91.

Please confirm that the reason the five of you only finished one out of three bottles was that they were in magnums?

Color: Garnet, lots of red, nice and dark, but not totally clear.
Nose: Soapy, even a little meaty. Very faint nose, this could use time to open up.
Mouth: Big tannins, cherry, fruits. The fruit is quick up front, fading to an empty middle, w/ a mint and spirit at the end. There's a tobacco/toasted wood reverse-nasal taste which makes this a very interesting port.
