I'd love to open a VP every night but realistically, and especially in the current climate, that isn't an option. OK, so you could say that it is helping Portugal out of its economic problem but bankrupting yourself to save a nation?

Looking for a midweek / bang for buck option here and I'll start the ball rolling and they are both from Asda.

Dows Icon Reserve I've just spotted at £8 a 75cl bottle.
The reason I found that is that I've been on the Dow's Midnight recently. Here's odd:
Dow's Midnight 50cl is £4.82 a bottle which is £9.64 a litre.
Dow's Midnight 75cl is £9.27 a bottle which is £12.36 a litre.

A bottle of port after wine with dinner midweek? No, I think I'll take a 50cl bottle thanks.

So I'll be off to purchase a number of Dow's Midnight port from Asda at change out of a fiver a night. I mean, bottle.

I served Dow's Icon blind to an offlne some time ago and people were generally very impressed. The one I opened had gained 5-10 years of bottle age and had benefitted from doing so.

Get yourself down to Tesco and clear the shelf of Croft Unfiltered LBV 2004 (half) and 2005 (full) bottles which are currently discounted to less than £4 and £8 respectively - and both very good ports!

If you can’t get hold of the Croft LBV at that insane price (since it is obviously a loss-leader) then I reckon the Taylor First Estate Reserve (the one with the black label) is a pretty good ruby and is usually at the same prices as the Dows. It’s full of vibrant fruit with none of the nasty heat you usually get with a ruby and I think it’s worth trying for some variety.
