Good time to buy decanters..

It's the summer holiday season, and decanters sold on eBay are getting little buyer attention..
Have recently picked up a never used cut crystal decanter by Thomas Webb for £10 + postage; and an unchipped flint glass three ring decanter, probably late Georgian or early Victorian - for just £9.99..
This leaves me with a slight over-supply of glassware, so if anyone would like a slightly crummy but functional decanter gratis - please ask when you next call round or we have an offline - I have a couple to offload..

Much to my wife's chagrin, I've started a small decanter cluster. While I've mostly been keeping an eye on flea markets and antique shops for interesting specimens, it sounds like I should also be tuning into the online world for a better selection. My current favorite (an
Eisch Duck) is hardly the traditional decanter, but it's a beautiful little piece of work.

I love the look, but all glass pitchers with handles like that worry me. Is the top of the handle really strong enough to hold the decanter verticle while extracting the last drops of Port?

I just grab the decanter, it's small enough. no need to be dainty about it

Oh dear, I wish Tom hadn’t posted this. Having resisted the temptation for a long time, I am now in possession of Yet Another Port Decanter. Rather nice, Victorian one with a silly spear-shaped stopper, perfect size for a mid-week half-bottle, though. I just I wish I knew where to keep them all!
Does anyone have any good books on them? I’m beginning to think I should read a bit to make my purchasing impulses a bit more informed!

LOL, had to laugh a couple years again I was in the same boat. I resisted then somehow managed to aquire several more decanters. I've been good at saying no, but admit it's hard when I see one I like.

It’s the curse of ebay. There are so many on there and they rarely go for more than £10 (+ p&p which usually doubles the price) so every time I look I see one that I like and can afford... Resisting the temptation to search for them is the key!
