Decanted and tasted immediately. The cork was very dry and failed to come out cleanly. The bottom half had to be pushed in - it felt like it had been glued to the inside of the bottle neck. No great detriment noted though, apart from the pain getting the port out.
I was uncertain whether to open this now, but felt in need of something 'robust'. As expected, very dark, inky red with just the slightest translucence around the edge. On the nose, that typical nose of a younger port - to me it is very strong pear drops. To taste, much smoother than I expected - the very first taste suggests strong tannins but they do not attack the mouth in the way I would normally expect.
I have enjoyed this a lot. I would buy it again, although I would also probably plan to enjoy it young as well.
