Thursday this week in London works for me as I have a meeting in London Friday and could stay in London on Thursday night. The alternative is that I need to travel to Ipswich for Thursday, so an overnight stay in Saffron Walden on Wednesday night would be convenient.

I will be in London on Thursday evening. I have a Niepoort Pisca 2007 (or perhaps it's 2008?) Cask Sample that could be added to the line-up :wink:

Can I propose a Kiev leg to this tasting - visiting a friend there. Army type - she likes port! Just a question of what I can get into hand luggage or buy at LHR. Anyone know what the availability of port is like at LHR duty free these days? (T5)

T5, last week, from memory, had:

- a Noval Silval (1998?), for in the region of £35-£45;

- Taylor 85 (for in the region of £80 all-in); and

- one other (i want to say Cavadinha 1996, though can;t be sure if that's right or on price).

Perhaps a couple of tawnies as well but i can't recall (distracted by 3 for 2 on giant Toblerone at that point).

And what looked, at a fleeting glance, like a very impressive collection of very expensive Bordeaux/Champagne.

I went through T5 a week or two ago. They had some port - but I think there was only one vintage option and a couple of LBVs. I don't remember what the vintage option was - Kopke 1985 maybe?

But I can't remember because I was distracted by the Faustino I which was on sale at £12.99 - £10 voucher. I bought as much as I could.

Perhaps port is on the shelf in more than one place within T5, since i do not remember either the Kopke or seeing any LBVs. The stash i saw was by the "fine wine" section, which had an impressive climatised wine cabinet holding a load of first growths.

That is a good call as it would give more people the chance to taste this unusual sample.

It looks like I am going to have to drive into London on October 6th, so this suggestion is a good one IMO.

I would be very impressed if AHB could drink enough of a less-than-one-month-old Port to exceed the drink drive limit!

I sampled a glass of the one-day-fortified port, drawn directly from the tank - it was much more approachable than one might have expected..
