I can go either way. If you have some options let me know and I'll pick one.

I'll have to check my inventory but I think I have a G70 that I could bring. Or rather, that I could ship to you.

My memory fails me, I do not have a G70.

I have a 1960 Croft or several different 1977s that I could bring (including a Graham), or I could adopt an extra leaker if you have another you'd like to dispense with. I also have a couple of "extra" T70s and I'd be happy to bring one of those if they're not too passé in this crowd.

As a fun little palate wetter, I'll be supplying the Grahams 6 grape and the Noval Black to be tasted along side of port.

Btw, we need to determine a location

Sushi please chime in as i'm sure our out of town guests would be open to wherever.

I will go downstairs later today to survey the situation and identify some leakers. Sadly, i don't think I have any young leakers. We'll just have to drink the old stuff ;)

location, location, location

With only a month left, we need to reserve a place

esp since it's a saturday

If nothign comes to mind, I'll put in a call for North Square again as I liked the really private room.

I'm fine with whatever location you decide on, and am aware that food will be $100+/person.

Re the theme - have we decided that it's going to be 'leakers'? If so, I have a '63 Cockburn I can ship in advance, but since there's two of us, I'll need to acquire or adopt another bottle.

If that's not the theme, can we decide soon, so I can acquire and ship a couple of bottles, unless adoption is an option again?

I'm also fine with whatever location the locals choose, as their choice will be far better informed than any I might make. North Square sounds fine to me, and like Sandy I'm fine with $100-ish per head for food. The incremental cost of even doubling the Port budget doesn't make a significant impact on the cost of my trip - we're staying at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott for the Crossword Puzzle Tournament, after all.

I'd be happy to adopt a leaker or pre-ship one of my bottles. Adopting a leaker would certainly be easier if you guys have enough of them to go around.

I acutally don't

the 60 is my only leaker

But we do have an emerging 60s theme going on

so let's keep with stuff from the 60s.

Wow -- this rapidly turned into a pretty impressive tasting. If only we had the 70... and perhaps a 63.

Also, if we're going with north square, and a tasting like this, we have room for people. We might as well open it up a bit.

Though I'm part of the 65-69 purchase, I do also have a 70 that I could contribute and ship to Jeff. There are 63s available online, but they're at least half again what we're paying for the 65-69 per bottle. 64 also exists - I have one - but I'd rather not contribute my only birthday bottle.

63, 66, and 70 would be the only Taylors; the rest are Vargellas. It will be interesting to see which 67 we're getting - I have had both the Oporto 1970 bottling and a UK 1969 bottling.

Slow down, folks, don't ship just yet. Let's see what happens tomorrow at auction. We may have some interesting adds, but i need to see how it all turns out.

and I meant Yes, please DO ship DRT to NY. Please don't ship T70 or T63 just yet, as there's a high probability I'll have them for us in short order. More soon.

ps, i do have T77, 80, and 85, but they seem well beyond the range of our tasting :) Perhaps we should instead look to a 63, like D63 which showed so nicely last year, or Co63 (though I thought we might do a Cockburn Vertical on a different occasion).

Finally, I recall being asked at the #PortDay Virtual tasting about a Hooper63 in my cellar. Could someone remind me who was asking?

was Andy I believe.

So, i think there are also a 61 and a 64 of the taylors floating around

so if we wanted a true 60s tasting

we'd only be missing the
60, 61, 64

we have the 63, 65,66,67,68,69

Confirmed, the T63 was acquired last night at auction :D :D :D
Now, according to someone's definition, the 60's actually go from 61-70... maybe we just need to get a 70 from WC.

I have a "spare" T70 that I can ship to one of you guys if we want it.

I'd love to get to try a TV64... I have one but am saving it for a future birthday. Possibly my 55th. VPs from 1964 are hard to find so I have to ration mine very carefully. ;-)

Perhaps we can find some overseas assistance for these hard-to-find Taylors?

That is obviously an American definition.

In the UK, the traditional home of Port, a "60's vertical" goes from 1912 to 2009.

The (19)60s run from 1960 to 1969. The 197th decade is 1961-1970. Just in case there is any confusion about which decade we intend to celebrate, we should include both 1960 and 1970.

I've seen Vargellas 1961 and 1964, but never 1962.

Nice line up - I look forward to hearing about the 1968 and 1969 Vargellas, neither of which are ports that I have ever tried.

I, too, look forward to those two bottles. And also the 1965, as that is my wife's... no wait, scratch that, my wife is only 29. I have no idea what I was thinking.

I looked far and wide for a Port from 1969 three years ago to give a friend for his 40th birthday, but could find nothing. So I settled on a 1967 Vargellas reasoning that at least it was bottled in 1969 and so still fit the theme.

Naturally, the bottle I acquired for him was the (rather fabulous) 1970 Oporto bottling. At least it made for a good story!

I've had the 68 too at harry's and it's amber colored but incredibly smooth after the initial heat blows off.

btw,

what are recommended decant times for these?

the 67 was a pop and pour which i thougth was good
68 was popped and decanted for an hour before we drank and that was fantastic. (i think sushi had this with me since it was on my bday)

Well no, not really. Jeff's carefully phrased response side-stepped the questionable offer of an older Talyor in the hopes that, upon review of the first post, an older Taylor might arrive instead.

But along those lines, didn't Josh just acquire a T63? I have a T70 that I can ship (if we do it soon) so that Josh can supply the T63.

You've no idea -- i've been hunting the T63osaur for a while now, it being the first truly great port I had (thanks jdaw -- it was at the anniversary tasting (la sirene), and first time i met you guys). I finally acquired two at auction, so it's a little sad to be popping it so soon. But why get em if we don't drink em, right? I haven't seen them yet, but I hope to pick them up this weekend.

Given that it's a rather pricey bottle, perhaps someone wants to bring something a little on the lower end and we'll split the difference?
