1963 Fonseca
F63: Fabulous dark red, 60% opaque. Nose had cedar and smoke. To taste leather, heat mid-palate, and massive cedar. Also lots of very dark fruit. Extremely long. This bottle needed another half decade in the cellar! One taster rightly said ‟marzipan spiciness”. JDAW.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Re: 1963 Fonseca
Deep red in colour, 95% opaque and with a firm rim. A huge nose, full of mature fruit - spicy cranberry and cinammon. On the palate this is balanced, with plenty of fruit and soft fine tannins. Generous acidity keeps a sharp focus. Long, luscious and lingering finish. A fantastic bottle, in need of more time to reach its peak! 93/100. 11-Jun-12. Decanted 3 hours.
