I have to be in London for a late afternoon meeting on Tuesday 23rd October. Is anyone else around and interested in meeting up?

I could be persuaded.

what type of theme? If we're going for the good stuff, i have a couple of nice options (but will not declare now in case you want to go blind)

I haven't really thought of a theme - I'm open to suggestions, or simply "bring a blind (or not) bottle of vintage port to share". Or we could make this an opportunity to try a couple of untried vintages of Warre or Smith Woodhouse LBV.

Do you have any preference?

I've just realised that this would be the closest offline to my birthday - we could make it a 1963 theme? Or at least I could bring a 1963 vintage port?

Other plans have been made for me. Sorry team. Though, of course, willing to do the usual.

Perfect. Do you want blind or sighted 1963?

Looks like it could be just you and me, so let's go sighted.

That gives you a choice from the bottles I have at home of Constantino, Gould Campbell, Martinez, Offley, Quarles Harris or an Unknown Shipper. Which would you prefer?

Unknown should be saved.

Of the others, i am most intrigued by Constantino (can't recall ever having had a Constantino VP) and Gould (the two 66s i have had this year were amazing, the 77 not too shabby, so on a good run of luck with this house).

I will bring Cockburn if that is ok - first of some very nice looking bottles that i acquired in April from the Tennants auction. If you have any objections to that, i also have Delaforce and Croft to hand.

Cockburn would be lovely - I like Cockburn's 1963.

The unknown will be opened on or very close to my birthday weekend, it's not an unknown that I planned to save. But I'm also happy to bring either the Constantino or Gould Campbell - both look to be in good condition. Unless you have a particular preference, I'll bring the Constantino.

If this is true and you are willing, my vote is for the unknown. I would also be very happy with the Constantino.

I have a Borges & Irmao 1963 at home that I am happy to bring along if that is thought acceptable?

Which ’63?

AHB bringing unknown; RAYC bringing that now abbreviated to Ck.

At present, '63 an issue. Options are:
  • -bring something other than '63
  • -adopt
  • -establish speed of delivery from Suffolk
Preferences will be given due consideration!

I have so little 63 that i'd sort of prefer not to kill two bottles in one evening, and i don't think you should do a last minute order.

Unless AHB says otherwise, i don't think we need to have exclusively 63 (I'll let AHB make the call on the Borges - i'm less snooty about it than i was last week after the B&I 70 showing on Monday)

We had a Borges '63 on Tuesday and it was very drinkable. If you'd like to bring it along, please do.

My preference would be to bring a '63. A solution has been suggested by PM.

Purchased in 2005 from Vintners Selection. The crime is not mine.

I would be happy for that one to be "blind" if it facilitates placemats this evening (my guesses on the night, of course, would be Constantino, Gould Campbell, Martinez, Offley, or Quarles!)

Can we do better than "Small 1963"?!

How about "Birthday ports for AHB - 1963" or some variant?

Are these producers all mid-tier? Plus what if the unknown turns out to be Taylor?

  • ‟A Few 1963s for Alex’s Birthday”.

Very unlikely. And even if I were, I have no ’63 within reach.

Is The Bung Hole a confirmed venue or simply the default parameter now in the placemat software?!

The Bunghole is confirmed, although we are (probably) not in our usual room but on the table in the corner.

It is the default of the placemat software’s main user but not of the software itself.

Though it’s not a bad idea. Why not write ‟The Bung Hole” rather than ‟London”?

We are in the Office at the Bung Hole - that's the small room - tomorrow night. It's booked from 6pm.

Please update the Placemats to remove RAYC (work) and his Cockburn '63. Looks like it will be a small and intimate tasting.

There's a small chance i might be able to make it out for a couple of hours between 7.00 and 9.00 tomorrow - enough to leave the bottle standing tonight, not enough to make a firm commitment.

Take me off the placemats but i now have a sliver of hope that i'll join you with the Ck for a short while.

Cheers

Rob
