I'm sure others would chime in, but perhaps it may be best to share such better with the mum.

Probably not worth the trouble to see how much a bottle in poor condition would be worth.

Can you tell us whether the bottle was standing up while it was stored in your Mum's cupboard?

OK, as you are new to port, you need to know that stood upright is NOT good news, nor are 'kitchen cupboard' bottles...

..the cork will have shrunk and the wine may well have become oxidised..

Your best bet is to:

a) Sell it to a dealer who has little regard for his customers.

b) Sell it at auction.

or

c) Sell it in good faith to someone who knows the risk he is taking, and who will not sell it on.

If the level of the wine is still in the neck, or very close to it; I willl offer you £100. It will be drunk as an 'extra' bottle at an event next month.

I would have offered 100$ US if it was into neck also.

but anything lower would be entirely a punt on my mood as I certainly don't wish to drink any sludge even at 50$ a btl.
