At the suggestion of AHB, on Monday 19th November 2012 we tested an alternative venue, the Hix Oyster & Chop House, 36-37 Greenhill Rents, Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6BN, tel +44 20 7017 1930.
Ch85, decanted 7am. Dark red, 70% opaque. Nose flat. Taste had big red fruit. Slightly short. Lots of sweetness. Needs time.
But everybody else thought hopelessly corked. Damn! Five years ago I was thoroughly insensitive to TCA. And I had been learning. Or so I thought. Illusion shattered: the TCA that other found so strong and was barely perceptible to me. Damn.

I think I am moderately sensitive. Unless I was selling or making even, I would love not to be sensitive to TCA at all.
Dark red in colour, 90% opaque. Hugely smelly on the nose, reeking of TCA. Slightly bitter on the impact, with TCA showing over the fruit and turning bitter on the finish. 82/100
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports, except a good bottle of Fonseca 1927. Wow!
