As 'newbie' to Port I'm hoping this forum can answer a questions for me...

I've been given bottle of Graham's 1984 LBV. I understand that LBV Port is usually good for immediate drinking but in this case, bearing in mind the age, will it improve any further with age or perhaps it should have been opened 20 or so years ago? I can't be sure of how it's been stored previously, although it's unlikely to have been in a proper wine cellar/cooler.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

It could be excellent. But if the storage has been hot or light, it could be very faded and weak.

Will it improve further? If it has been stored perfectly, further age, say a decade or so, probably wouldn’t hurt, but also wouldn’t help. If it has been stored imperfectly, then best to open soon.

It will not get any better now, but if you're lucky it may still be drinking well..

If it's not too late to add another voice, I agree with the advice you've had so far that suggests best to open and drink sooner rather than later.

But I would also be interested to hear what it tastes like when you do drink it.
