I went to the Connaught Hotel to see their old wine lists, and the sommelier, Hugues Lepin, gave me this bottle. Thank you.

2004 Gaivosa LBV. Decanted 5pm. Dar red, 70% opaque. Big taste. Heat early and mid palate. Lots of dark fruit. Plum, tannic structure, milk chocolate. My third-best WOTN, behind T80 and W60.

Bottled 2009. Deep red, with a clear rim and a centre that was 95% opaque. Youthful and vibrant on the nose, with plenty of youthful fruit. Modest entry, gentle fruit in early maturity. Lots of heat on the mid-palate, but with an enjoyable milk-chocolate core. Generous acidity supports the structure. A pleasant aftertaste and finish of mildly dirty fruit. Very enjoyable. Served blind, this was guessed to be Offley 1989. 86/100. Decanted 3½ hours.
