Quinta do Quevedo

Post by idj123 »

This may be one for G-Man to provide some input, but having put together some wording to accompany the other port-named tables at my upcoming wedding (which reflect the Port miniatures I managed to purchase on my recent trip to Porto), I now need some wording for Quevedo. I think I was paying more attention to the tasting flight when I visited them (I was impressed and came away with bottles of their 2004 LBV and 1992 Colheita) and although we chatted, I can only recall that they'd been producing port for five generations. Therefore, any wording to decribe them or their house style (max about 60 words) would be greatly appreciated!

The fantastic Quevedo blog maintained by Oscar may be of some help here.

btw I think the "Quevedo" brand name follows the family name rather than being the name of a quinta.

Correct. If I remember correctly, they have three Quintas, one of which (the main one perhaps?) is Quinta Vale d'Agodinho.

ya

Quinta Vale d'Agodinho in the Douro Superior
Quinta Sra. Rosario near trovisca
and the main one Quinta da Trovisca in Sao joao pesqueira both are Cima corgo (upper douro)

The winery actually got it's start in 1993 following the joining of portugal in EU allowing smaller wineries without a spot in villa nova de gaia to set up shop.
Yes itw as 5 generations on Oscar's grand mother side that had the vineyards.
They are farming using both biodynamica nd organic practices.

Thanks g-man et al, that gives me enough material to work with. BTW, just for the record, the other tables are named after the more straightforward houses of: Taylor's;Dow;Graham's;Noval;Fonseca and Sandeman! Oh and my location is Hampshire, UK.

Just polishing off that 2004 Quevedo LBV as I type!
