S67. Dark red, but a slightly dirty nose. Taste interesting: slightly acidic, and heat late palate. Behind red cherry fruit and structure. I liked this, despite the gentle heat and acidity.
! Bottle marked "S67"
Again a similar colour but perhaps slightly darker than the first two. Dusty nose. Nice sweet cherry on the palate. Medium weight and fully mature, perhaps a little past its best but not by much. A very nice glass of port that is consistent with what was written on the lid, so my guess is Sandeman 1967.
Similar colour to the others. Spirit on the nose - although may have been my imagination. Compared to some of the others wines, a little lighter weight, and fully mature. Very easy to drink.
Deep red, bricking rim but solid core; 60% opaque. Lovely nose, full of mature fruit but still with some youth. Beautiful floral tones and sweet fruit. Nice texture and dense flavours on the palate with concentrated, mouthfilling fruit. A slight hollowness to the aftertaste, which takes a long time to show sour quince and aniseed on the finish. Enjoyable. Served blind this was guessed to be Warre 1977. 89/100. Drunk 02-Oct-13. Decanted 1½ hours.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
