N60. Brick red, 40% opaque. Nose lovely, with dark cherries. Full weight, big fruit, lots of heat. Also mint and chocolate. Also, ‟Later: getting even better.”
Wonderful nose. Although I did not notice mint, I did find it rich, full of spice, with good weight, a lovely texture and a wonderful wine. Showing very well.
Burnished orange in colour, 40% opaque. Pronounced nose, quite frsh and minty with a tang of kumquat. Sweet toffee-apple on the palate, a lovely balance and texture. This has a wonderful complexity with acid constantly battling with the Golden Syrup. Fully charged on the aftertaste and a huge finish that has plenty of heat but also plenty of flavour. Fine fireside port. Served blind this was guessed to be Gould Campbell 1966. 92/100. Drunk 02-Oct-13. Decanted 5½ hours.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
