1963 Pocas
1963 Pocas
To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.

Pç63. Second palest of the flight, just darker than Dalva; cloudy orange, 25%. Nose faint, with sugar, and a slight sourness. Taste sweet, then powerful heat, and a citrus note. Still a little life in it.
Re: 1963 Pocas
Pale and slightly cloudy. Yeast on the nose. Bitter and quite horrid.

Pale and falling apart, but still quite drinkable

1963 Pocas Vintage Port
The color was a murky pale tan. Not something that looked very appealing. Lots of V.A. and oranges on the nose. The palate was shot. Lots of V.A., orange zest and clipped. Can’t recall every having this before so no idea if this was a duff bottle or normal for this Port.
Not Rated.

Cloudy, orange brown, watery rim; quite closed on the nose with a dusty smoke hint; good length, not good, but not bad either; falters on the palate and a bit dull.

This Port is "over the hills and far away" as the quality of the Port is not good enough to leave it almost 50 years in the botttle.

Orange colour, slight greening on the rim. 15% opaque and slightly cloudy. Antiseptic nose, lots of ozone. The antiseptic mixed with orange peel dominates the early palate and leads to a harshness on the mid-palate from the cutting acidity. A sharp dose of bitters shows on the aftertaste and finish, but this changes into a lovely ginger biscuit of impressive length. 82/100. Drunk 11-Oct-13. Decanted 5 hours.
