1963 Sandeman
1963 Sandeman
To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.

S63. Red, 40% opaque. Big unctuous taste, with strawberries. Mid-to-light weight: very old-style Sandeman. A mite better than its Quinta de la Rosa sister.
Re: 1963 Sandeman
Light texture and drying out, but a nice fully mature vintage port.

My previous experiences of Sa63 have led me to class it as a port to drink up, yet this example was delightfully well preserved and youthful. My WOTN

1963 Sandeman Vintage Port
A darker ruby color compared to the ’63 Quinta de la Rosa VP which preceded it in the flight. A youthful and pqwerful nose. Full bodied from the get-go, spices, light tannins, then it blows up in the mouth. The finish was seamless and very long. Mature, but in a great place with many more years left ahead of it. A real treat to try this.

glorious ruby red; slightly watery on the rim; umami nose; lovely!; medium body very long and fragrant; really classy port!

Brick red and attractive in appearance; 50% opaque. Faint nose showing a slight soapiness. Gentle flavours on entry which builds reasonably well to medium bodied with some very gentle tannins apparent. Lovely sweet strawberry aftertaste and a big finish supported by the tannins. Very fine, very long. 90/100. Drunk 11-Oct-13. Decanted 7 hours.
