To celebrate the Quinquagenary of AHB, he arranged a horizontal of 1963s in Wokingham at The Cantley House Hotel (evenings of Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October 2013) and The Walter Arms (lunch on Saturday 12th), and two evening Champagne tastings for our better halves. Sadly the venue was not able to accommodate all he would have liked to have invited. Diaries had been blocked since early 2012, and bottles had been gathered for most of a decade before that. A splendid weekend indeed.
With dinner we had a magnum of 1966 Château Batailley, provided by THRA. Also see the review of the event as a whole.

A lovely red wine with dinner, though no note was taken.

It was incredibly kind of Tom to provide a magnum of mature claret for dinner on Friday - he knows how much I enjoy mature claret!
I did take a note, which reads:
Deep red centre with a bricking rim. Wonderful on the nose, full of fruit and tinned tomatoes. Rich and expressive on the palate, bringing a lovely texture and sweet concentrated mature fruit. The palate is wonderful, having both presence and style. Delicious aftertaste, with a lingering finish that keeps reminding you how little wine there is in each glass when sharing a magnum between 19 people. Fabulous mature claret. Thank you Tom. 94/100.
