Whether or not including Sandeman Vau, I’ll have to adopt something in exchange for £. Willing to do so.

Thank you indeed! That solves a bit of a sourcing challenge :-)

Edit: of course adding the Nacional puts about an extra £70pp onto the cost assuming purchased at retail!
I don't have NN97, but I believe one of the regulars here does......

I vote to not add the NN. The purpose of this is to evaluate which are to be popped now or soon and which are to be left alone. I think I already know the answer for the NN.

Tom - i am more than happy to put your name on one of my bottles for the future, but below was Doty's TN from the BBR event in 2010 and pretty representative of what the rest of us felt. I'd much prefer to spend a bit of money trying one of the Nacional 62s that Seckfords have than broach one of the few bottles of 97 in collective possession at this stage so let's discuss an appropriate occasion!

ALL tannin. Spice and Tannin. Almost undrinkable at this stage for me. Promise, certainly, but at a really difficult stage. 85?? (91-94 potential?!)

Given Doty's note, which I assume is fairly recent, I agree that the NN is probably best left in peace..

I'm still interested.

If you're looking for dates in June the following would be really convenient for me: Wednesday 4th, Thursday 5th, Thursday 12th, Monday 16th, Monday 23rd-Thursday 26th, Monday 30th.

I have on hand only the Martinez (£8), Vesuvio (£30) or Warre (£22). All the rest are tucked away in peace and quiet. Let me know which of these you'd like me to provide and then the other two are available for adoption by someone who doesn;t have access to any 1997s.

And I vote for the 18 shipper tasting, in one single evening, at TBH on a day when we can have botht he private room for tasting and the long table in the restaurant for the meal. I further vote not to include the NN97 (it is just too expensive and rare to be of relevance to most of us) but instead to include the SV97 in DM. If JDAW has drunk his, I have one at home that I had planned to open for my birthday last year but which went untouched!

Pity this isn't a democracy, but I enjoyed voting anyway.

Excellent. You are elevated to the confirmed list.

OK all that remains is to divine a date which most/all of us can do. Bear with me if we need a few shots at finding one that is good for many.

Opening gambit, Wednesday 4 June, which I know works for AHB and me...

NN now off the table, and in it's place Quarles Harris.

Currently the 18 are:
Cockburn, Croft Roeda, Dow, Fonseca, Gould Campbell, Graham, Martinez, Morgan, Offley, Quarles Harris, Quinta do Noval, Quinta do Vesuvio, Ramos, Sandeman, Sandeman Vau, Smith Woodhouse, Taylor, Warre

Does that mean Vau should be considered "over and above" the 18 slots on three A4 placemats, as it is proposed to be a DM to assist with additional juice to sustain the participants?

Doesn't work for me - end of the month much better - Thu 26th or Mon 30th.

*CRASH* and a fall at the first fence :-)

OK on the basis that Thurs 26 June makes 3 people available, let's try that. Everyone?

June 26th doesn't work for me, on holiday all that week but happy that you go with the majority as otherwise it will be nightmare to find a date we can all do!

Having said that 26th June would work for me, it now looks like it might be difficult. July starting to look better...

I was already coming to the conclusion that this was going to be difficult as we had established a roster of attendees before a date! I propose a different way forward to find a date. I'll find five or six options scattered across later May, June and July, and PM everyone to get your availability for those. Once I have the lie of the land from that I can make a call on which date gets the nod with the most people.

Stand by.

Or use the polling function and have everything visible to us all.

I know that July is out for me - in Berlin throughout July and August.
That Thursday I mentioned earlier could very well prove to be a very convenient date, as it happens.
In fact I would suggest that you hold off on the PM / email / poll until a few more people respond to the thread..
If you make a poll, I vote that we have to have a poll on whether it should be used.

Don’t do a poll. Some people will be needed — well, their bottles will be needed, so it would be polite to choose a date on which they can come — and other people would be welcome. A phpBB poll won’t capture that.

Don't go all Lib-Dem on us, Flash. Make a decision, and make it a good one.

I hesitate to confuse things further! I wonder if I could put myself down as a reserve, or even attendee if currently room, at what would be my first offline (although perhaps depends a little on which date gets chosen).

Still, toe in the water etc. ......

I have a few 97s to offer - Dow here, and have some Fonseca, Taylor, Croft Roeda and Vesuvio in storage I could get hold of. Otherwise adopt?

:)
