Rusty orange, 20% opaque. Offensive plastic nose, heavily oxidised with lots of marzipan and almond paste. Hollow entry with little flavour initially but some gentle juniper and pine resin that grows on the palate. A hot aftertaste with lots of spirit showing, then a lively stewed rhubarb syrup finish of good length. Soft and oxidised, but not offensive on the palate. Served blind, this was guessed to be a compromised Warre 1970. 73/100. 11 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
