W58 (‘AHB’), decanted 8am. Red-brown, 30% opaque. Nose slightly tawny, like very old VP. Very mature. Unctuous mouthfeel. Long, Strawberry and mint, with marmalade late.
One of my three-equal WOTNs. I said ’58, then changed my mind to ’60, and chose Sandeman. I never came close to thinking that this was Warre.
Red mahogany in colour, 70% opaque. Vibrant nose, very attractive with dried sage and savoury meat tones. Gentle flavours on entry, but develops quite a powerful palate with a lovely concentration of sweet but acidic caramelized oranges. The caramelized orange dominates the aftertaste and lengthy finish. This is lovely mature port which makes for fine drinking. 88/100. 11 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
Delicate nose of milk chocolate, marzipan and figs, with flavours of orange marmalade, almonds, hazelnuts and -again- milk chocolate. Tannins are fully resolved, and although it is soft, it still carries enough weight to feel alive. A nice surprise.
