Brick red in colour, very intense pigmentation. Wonderful, expressive nose; rich and complex with layer after layer of smell - sour cranberries, roasted pine nuts and fresh cedar wood. On the palate this brings a medium bodied, slightly watery texture. The tannins are still pronounced, dry and powdery, and hte fruit slow to take command. Eventually the fruit settles to show the same toasted fruit tone as the nose, but is on the acidic and austere side. The aftertaste is modest, but leads into an immense and intense finish of 3-4 minutes duration. The finish is one of the best I have ever experienced. This is drinking nicely now but there is no need to rush to open them although I don't believe that the wine will improve with further bottle age. Further mouthfuls do allow the acidity to soften, but the burnt toast elements of the fruit remain (but these are not unpleasant in any way). 92/100. Drunk 27-Mar-14.
