(prices-aside, since I can't read them) Maybe, though I'd be wary. If the store had decent temp control, and that the bottles were well out of sunlight then I'd talk to the store owner to see if I could find out how long they may have been there (ask about provenance, where the came from etc). They *might* only stand a few up for convenience and then replace from laid-down stock when bought (which would hopefully reduce the stand-up time, or you might be able to buy the laid-down ones from storage instead). If it all sounds ok, I'd risk a bottle, then depending might buy more later.

Well Flash might conceivably know where this shop is (no names please). I have actually bought plenty of bottles from here in the past and been lightly underwhelmed with them. They have an excellent range of wines from all over the world but the ports are a more mixed oddment. I presume they do have laid down stock. Just wondered what fellows thought.

Only one way to find out, have a punt on a cheapie. As Phil says, see if you can get one from out the back.

Having seen your point about being underwhelmed I think I would avoid. But it is a good sign that they have a decent range.

Also, it looks like they have older vintages, if the fill level is still good, it's probably very low risk to take home and open in quick order.
