1998 Reichsrat von Buhl Forster Kirchenstück Riesling Spätlese
From a magnum:
The Forster Kirchenstück ("Church parcel") is one of the best vineyards in the Palatinate. In Burgundy it would be rated as a Grand Cru. The Reichsrat von Buhl is a solid VDP-producer, but not the best of the Palatinate.
Amber-coloured, the nose reminds me of muscatel with it's notes of caramel and maderization (with some petrol in the mix, too), in the mouth more off-dry with some apricot flavours, not much acidity, light body, apricot in the aftertaste, a very short finish, the nose is much better than the mouth + finish. I wonder what a Kirchenstück of the other B's (Bassermann-Jordan and Bürklin-Wolf) would have tasted like. Probably better as they are simply the better producers.
Tasted at an event in a local supermarket in Cologne on the 5th of July 2014.
