Hi everyone,

Firstly I'm a bit of a Port beginner, so please excuse any stupid questions / Got a case of Quinta Do Vesuvio that I am looking to sell. Got given 4 cases by by grandfather, and have two left. Have decided to sell one and drink the other, so wanted to get an idea from you guys
a) how long you think the case I'm drinking will last for, i.e. when does it start to turn / go off?!
b) how much you think I should be expecting for the case I'm selling - FRW.co.uk is saying about £45 per bottle, but I have the original unopened case, all bottles are wrapped inside and it comes with the ceramic hanging label too.

1992 was very early in the history of Quinta do Vesuvio (their first release was, as I recall, 1989), but it was a good year in general. 1992 Vesuvio should be a long-lived Port. Easily 30-40 years and possibly longer. So I don't think you have anything to worry about in that regard - savor the ones you keep over the next couple of decades.

To my American ears, 45 GBP/bottle sounds high for Vesuvio. I can usually find all but the best years here in the US for around $60, which would be closer to 30-35 GBP. In the case of 1992, though, it might be a supply and demand issue. To further rain on the parade, if FRW.co.uk says 45 GBP/bottle then as a private seller you can only expect to net about half that whether you sell at auction or through a private sale. So potentially 25 GBP/bottle. The original case is a nicety, but generally doesn't affect the price. When I buy in lots of 6 in the US, I'm almost always able to get the original wood case for free along with the purchase at ~$60/bottle.

Our usual advice to sellers is to keep it and drink it yourself. Port generally isn't the windfall that people are hoping for, so drinking and enjoying with family or friends is often the best advice we can give.

Thanks - totally understand. My worry was that I just wasn't going to have enough time to drink the Port before it turned, but sounds like I have another 15 years to get through it, which is perfect.

Yes, even at just one bottle consumed per year you will likely not reach "over the hill" for the 1992 Vesuvio. They're very sturdy wines!

You certainly have plenty of time to drink it yet; many of us would consider it to have only just entered, or be coming up to, its prime drinking window, and should last a good couple more decades without problem yet if well kept.
