Another of my favourite Italian wines, again discovered in a local restaurant and offered at slightly above UK retail (if you can find it).

Decanted off a fair amount of gritty sediment. Intense red but with bricking showing, just off opaque. Terrific nose of burnt toast and blackcurrant jam. On the palate this has a wonderful density of fruit flavours, mature but still packing a powerful tannic punch. The palate delivers layer after layer of interest. Deliciously chewy on the aftertaste and very long finish. This has all the ingredients needed to go on for another decade or two - getting better all the time. 92/100. Drunk 08-Aug-14. Decanted 2 hours
