Tom provided four excellent bottles, all from Hedges & Butler (which I guessed): Fd63, D55, D63, T60. And a half bottle of Mouton Rothschild 1955, alas not bottled by Hedges & Butler.

1955 Mouton Rothschild, half bottle. Brought because Tom thought the
D55 looked too evolved.
Doesn’t everybody drink Mouton ’55 with steak and chips? Oh. Really? Oh.
I did not take a proper note, but the following day, from memory, this was a deliciously mature claret. Fruit, acidity and tannins all there and perfectly balanced. Slightly lighter than the Ports, which might be why I prefer Port, but excellent. Thank you Tom.

From a half bottle. Deep and dark in colour. A wonderful, delightful nose - full and fragrant, really attractive. The type of nose that can be smelt for ages before giving in and having a sip. Lovely on the palate, delicious round fruit with great maturity. The tannins still show clearly and provide great structure. This has a fabulous palate, a wonderful finish and a tremendous length. This is really fine claret. 96/100. 28-Aug-14. Decanted 4 hours.
