2005 Volnay Clos des Chenes R&P Bouley

I like Volnay, you can still buy exceptional producers without too much pain, but this wine is why Volnay is looked down on. A Clos des Chenes is just about top of the tree (I still prefer Fremiets, just to be contrary) and 2005 is one of those years which I have never had a bad bottle from. And this isn't a bad bottle. It just isn't good enough. It's a bit hollow, a bit short. Quite obviously burgundy, better with some food. Not much else to say. I wouldn't rush out to buy more, but it is better than when I last tried it. When it was horrible. Four more to go. 84.
