It would be helpful to draw the theme discussion to a conclusion and we can then ready bottles...

I'd like to stick to the Croft theme if we can. It appears that we're only short of a bottle for Ben with obvious vintages being 1975, 1985 or 1945.

I’ll check my photographs, but Cr85 might be on sale in the new Bung Hole.

Houston, we have a problem.
Katie Smith of Davy’s wrote:Good Morning Mr Wiseman,

Thank you for your email.

As requested I have checked availability on 29th October for you for your port tasting.

Unfortunately the whole of the restaurant area is booked for a quiz on that particular evening so we will not be able to hire out the semi-private rooms on that evening.

Apologies for not letting you know on the Friday evening when we spoke but I was unable to check the availability at the time for you. I am sorry about the inconvenience this may cause you.

Do you have an alternative date you would like me to reserve the area for? Or would you like me to contact our venue at Woolgate Exchange and Truckles and confirm if they have availability in their private rooms?

Once again I apologise for the inconvenience and please let me know if you have any further questions.

Please could attendees suggest other dates on which they are available.

An alternative venue would be my preference with the theme kept for the venue. My dates are limited!

Ummm....maybe this is a sign. I wonder if Davy's St James has availability in their Club Room....

That was exactly my immediate thought. I would really like to keep the date if we can as my availability is pretty limited at the moment and opportunities to drink fine port in good company are limited at the moment.

We moved away from the Crusting Pipe when management there lost interest in looking after us. This latest message does not promise a great future...

Club Room already taken, alas. The Board Room (“maximum eight people”) has been provisionally reserved for us, and a picture will be emailed to me.

Davy’s at St James’s: The Club room would be excellent for eight, but is booked. The office would be excellent for four, a squeeze for six, and definitely can’t hold eight of us.

I'm afraid it is unfortunately starting to look likely that i will have to withdraw, if that makes a difference to your ability to fit into the office...

Please, where else should we try?
Katie Smith wrote:That is a shame!

I would suggest Truckles or Davy’s at Woolgate.
Alternatively, Davy’s at Plantation Place has several private rooms too.

Would any of these be suitable?
The Private Dining Room at Plantation Place (picture 5)?

Narrow tables at Truckles? Methinks not.

Sorry to see you go.

That also means that we are, again, a bottle short.

I have been to plantation place twice. Food acceptable and rooms ok. There is one upstairs that may be ideal for 7. On intro from TBH they were happy to allow me to bring port the first time. They are rarely busy evenings for food.

Btw the photo you show is one of about 3 or 4 rooms at plantation place.

Excellent. I have asked about availability.

Would people object strongly if a mature vintage were repeated? If not, this problem might be rescued.

There is a fleeting outside chance that if a bid at Bonhams tomorrow is successful, and they can dispatch said case in short order, then a bottle of Croft 82 could be available. I don't mind if we need to double up on a vintage.

It is decided; it is booked; it is done. The Board Room will hold up to 12 people, according to Laura Chiverton (Assistant Manager, recently passed WSET).

For me please:
Crab toast
Fillet rare, no sauce, side of green beans & peas, side of skinny fries
Crumble and custard

(yes, that looks remarkable similar to my recent Woolgate order...)

Please could I order:
Starter-burrata
Main-rump, medium rare, with triple cooked chips and a side order of onion rings.
Pudding-treacle tart

Fingers crossed the venue is good!

I do still have my Croft problem. If it is not resolved, permission to be rebellious! I promise to be good...
