Vile wine

I am at Belfast International Airport waiting to fly to London. I ordered the only Old World red wine available by the glass but it is so vile that I think I cannot drink it. When was the last time you ordered something you really couldn't drink? (For the record, it's a bog standard Faustino Rioja.)

I am also drinking Rioja - what a coincidence!
Fortunately for me my glass of Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 2001 is far from vile

Oh yes, pile on the misery. Derek's drinking the 904, Daniel is off to somewhere glamourous and here I sit with a glass of prosecco (bleugh) with Em watching the Strictly semi final. I'm going to search the cupboard for something I can actually drink.

Prosecco? Owen. You surprise me.

In a garden, in the summer, why not. Watching painful TV with a cold, not so good. Awful in fact. I have found brandy, the cheap stuff, pretending to paint the Christmas cake with it.
I am hoping Santy will bring me a tasting note on the 904 Rioja.

If it is any consolation, that utterly fabulous bottle of 904 would have benefited from another ten years in bottle.

Got an email from Berrys about magnums of this, as previously mentioned I am tempted. Unfortunately I think I have bent the Christmas wine budget about as far out of shape as it will go already.

Too late, I peeked in the cupboard and found it.

This is why I prefer beer when I see that the wines on the wine list are no good.

Usually a good idea, but in these places even the beer is horrendous. Harp, over-chilled Guinness, Budweiser. These are not 'beer' as any beer-lover would recognise. If you don't chance the wine you have to retreat into spirits.

When you take a plane to go up in the air, you might as well "retreat into spirits" when you're still on the ground.

Agreed. So long as you're not flying the plane.
