Didn't write too much about this. It was sitting curiously on its own behind the bar in The White Horse in Newport before the tasting, and reappeared at The Bell as Dave's adoption.

Label bears the legend

"W
Douro
Garrafeira
PECULIAR
1948"

Dirk told us that this descriptor was illegal.

Actually not too bad, not too woody. Quite fresh.

Presumed to be a 1948 colheita, no bottling date or clue as to the shipper. Olive brown colour with a green rim, 30% opaque. Smelly nose, underneath the bottle stink is some good sweet honey and lime. Quite metallic on the nose. Gentle coffee on the palate, with more honey-sweetened lime and good balancing acidity that combine to give a nice palate. Lime marmalade finish that has a good length and ends with a slight honey stickiness. 89/100.
