Mid-depth brick-red in colour, lighter rim - much paler in tone than the 1955 shown alongside. The nose is subdued, with a swirl releasing a touch of sous bois. A lovely texture on the palate, initially sweet fruit and some soft tannins that combine well and support a lovely fragrance to the flavours. A long aftertaste, full of fruit but which fades away quite quickly, but doesn't disappear for a while. 89/100. Drunk 15-Apr-15.

1970 Château La Pointe: nose had mint. Palate fuller than the ’55, and smoother. More acidic bite. Great balance and structure. Perhaps a mite too much vanilla — oak, presumably.
