V94. Purple-black, 95% opaque. Lots of black fruit, melded with delicious sweetness. Some heat. Mid weight. Black sweetness throughout. Lovely.

The fruit said Quevedo. The colour said extremely young. But very very drinkable. That nudged me, hopelessly, to a mature Quevedo LBV.

Alex said that this drinkable sweetness was typical of young 1963s. Informed comment on this hypothesis would be interesting (though, just so it is all in once place, reply to this hypothesis in the review thread).

I suspected it to be about ten years younger than the first, and guessed an 08 Noval (which iºve never had, but which i imagine has round, surface-focused fruit). The 94 vesuivo is a monster wine, but was a bit simple on this showing (specifically lacking a solid core to my palate - all charm no substance). AHB knows this wine better than anyone, and said it is in a good and natural place in its development, and that he would buy my cases if i tire of them. they are not for sale.

Deep red with an opaque centre and a narrow rim. No bricking yet, but no youthful purple. A lovely rich and fruity nose, full of sweet black cherries and delicate, flowery lavender. Full and sweet on entry with masses of black cherry with a twist of coriander on the mid-palate. The tannins are full of dry black chocolate but are well integrated. This has lovely balance and is developing a very fine balance. Delicious black cherry finish and a great length. (This was bottle 28028.) 94/100.
