1963 Graham, part of a 1963 horizontal At my father’s in Sussex, on Saturday 2nd February 2008.

A very fine port indeed, and my number three of this horizontal. The Graham was mid-red, with surprisingly little to the nose. But the mouthfeel was a huge sticky perfectly-melded sugar-and-fruit thing that lasted ages and ages and longer in the mouth. Great stuff. Alas I have but one more bottle of it.

Thanks for the notes Julian. I have only one bottle left of the '63 Graham and have been waiting for a good opportunity to open it. I'm glad it's still holding up well.

I've held on to this bottle because it and its mate were the first bottles of VP I ever purchased when I got really interested in wine back around 1990. I bought them at the first auction I attended.

Decanted for 5 hours. Pale rim, coloured but transparent centre. Nose is subdued with menthol over a cherry centre. Fat entry, tannins come though immediately before rich and sweet Christmas cake. The tannins also drive the aftertaste with a quick dry burst on the cheeks when you swallow and leave a long and lingering aftertaste that just grabs your mouth and doesn't let go. Magnificent port. 9/9 or 96/100. Drunk 2/2/08.

It definitely was one of my winners of the Grahams tasting.
