2000 Offley

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

By the glass from the Boot & Flogger, decanted 14-Mar-2020 and drunk on 17-Mar-2020; stored under Vacuvin. Ruby red in colour, intensely pigmented; opaque with a wide rim. A touch of bottle stink on the nose, a nose which smells a little dirty and unclean over the bruised fruit. Smooth texture, baked fruit with a bitter acidity. Firm, slightly bitter tannins which grow in volume but with good levels of fruit wrapped around the core. The fruit is light and elegant with nice levels of acidity keeping a fresh counterpoint to the sweet balck chocolate fruit and sour cherry palate. Acidic but fragrant aftertaste and a nice black chocolate and dried cherry finish of good length. If only this had a cleaner nose... Another Port which can be drunk with pleasure now but which will improve with more time in the bottle. 87/100. Drunk 17-Mar-20. Decanted 3 days.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
