Hi Julian, just a heads up that I can't make this date. Have fun!rich_n wrote:I would love to join! Might need to work out where I'll stay, but I can sort something out.
Apologies, misread the date and I don't think I can make this.
Wed 16 Feb 2022: A Cellar Reduction Party

Re: Wed 16 Feb 2022: A Cellar Reduction Party
Some set-up help would be welcome. Is anybody willing to volunteer?
Maybe I should reserve the Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional 2006 for the set-up team? Other than its obvious and rather serious fault — only 750ml — it’s extremely delicious.
Who can print?
Also, pls could those who think they have accepted verify — first post — that I have noticed.

I can be early to help set up. What time would you like?

Just had a follow-up email for the booking from B&F, so have confirmed.
Booked from 1700 for 14 people.

Thank you. And that answers Alex’s question.
Also, my following Alex’s fine example reminded me that he is the shirtless guy.

Nothing is a better metaphor for the Port Forum than that video.
Re: Wed 16 Feb 2022: A Cellar Reduction Party
The lovely people at the B&F have asked if we want to pre-order any special steaks.
The options are:
300g rib eye @ £34
400g t-bone @ £42
600g club sirloin @ £48
I'm happy to co-ordinate this so JDAW can continue playing in his cellar.

I’ll share a m-r Club sirloin if anyone else would like to. Otherwise I’ll stick with the standard sirloin

Special order t-bone for me please, medium. The last one I had was very good.
Smoked salmon to start; and fries and a green salad (no onion) with the t-bone.

Re: Wed 16 Feb 2022: A Cellar Reduction Party
A request for clarification and to reflect feedback I had at a previous tasting I organised.
Where we have special steaks, please could the people ordering them make a greater contribution towards the cost of dinner that evening. I have accepted that it is unfair on those eating from the standard menu to be asked to pay the same as those ordering special steaks.
Given a “standard” steak costs £25.50, perhaps a fair set of surcharges might be:
Rib-eye £8.50
T-bone £16.50
Sirloin £22.50 (but no surcharge if shared)
When doing the reckoning at the end of the evening the cost of the bill after deducting surcharges is what is shared equally amongst all attending.
Thoughts from people?

I think this is very fair - we can work out the 'steak contribution' in advance knock this off the total bill and then divide as normalAlex Bridgeman wrote: ↑17:26 Wed 02 Feb 2022 A request for clarification and to reflect feedback I had at a previous tasting I organised.

I have just remembered this is number three in the series of TPF Cellar Reduction parties. Magnus organised one a few years ago just after he had moved back to Sweden.

I agree that Alex's suggestion with regard to steak surcharges is a good one. I also agree that T55, no matter what the level, is an upgrade on fortified Zinfandel...
