1999 Barros

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Barros 1999 Vintage Port, from half bottle. Decanted 30 minutes. Ruby red in colour with a touch of brick in the tone; 80% opaque. Gentle strawberry on the nose, quite restrained. The fruit on the palate is wonderfully round and ripe, a combination of black cherry and dark chocolate, not very complex but delicious. Cloves and nutmeg on the aftertaste sitting in a glacé cherry fruit core. Long and tasty; drinking at (one of) its peak now. 88/100. Drunk 18-Jan-25.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
