1991 Niepoort Vintage Port

Post by Axel P »

Tasted within the Niepoort Range on Nov 27th with Dirk Niepoort:

The 91 showed almost the same structure and reminded me a lot of the 87.

Peppery nose with fruit and some red berries. Palate was dominated by chocolate and herbs. Very good grip and finesse. Long aftertaste.

A Port with a decent future.

17+

Nose: very nicy fruity nose
Taste: the port starts to develop from the youth to a more matured port and will be very nice in a few years

This will be a port for fun-drinking in about 3 years and on.

This tasting confirmed my impression, that in recent times Niepoort performs particularly well in split declaration vintages. The bouquet offers a blend of black cherries, damp earth, molasses intermingled with bitter chocolate, a touch of tobacco and tarmac. The mouthfeel was quite supple, just a bit light in texture, but showed nice balance and overall harmony. On my "overweight" list - My No. 3 - after 70 and 87 - of the tasting 1963-2007. Cheers, victor
