News about my "DD"
I realize I've been off the radar for a while; there's only been one thing really on my mind and thus it has been difficult to find cause to say anything, wanting only to be able to say IT.
And IT is this: Y. and I are engaged.
Sadly, she doesn't drink, and all that was on hand for the initial celebrations was GC80. For those thinking "Y who?" JDaw1, g-man, TBird, DoubleD, JohninNYC I believe you have all met her.
I have a lot of notes and such to catch up on (like an F77 from my BDay, and two Ch85's and business cards and some outreach), and will get to it all over the next couple weeks.

Josh: very fine indeed. I know that you were smitten, and I’m delighted that she had the wit to return the compliment.
Derek is confused. Ignore him. Eventually he’ll fall asleep.DRT wrote:Congratulations g-man and y-woman

LoL, well, she was identified as my "Designated Driver" at some of our events As she does not imbibe, I was conversely her designated drinker.AHB wrote:But what does "DD" stand for?
Re: News about my "DD"
Yes considering that I drink considerably more then josh, y-woman would probably not be too happy with me.
Congratz again J-man!

Re: News about my "DD"
Thanks, all. And now the real question:
What port should I serve at a wedding?
Anyone else tried to handle providing your own booze at a wedding? Or how might one deal with all the advance decanting etc?
At the moment I'm inclined to put a bottle of 20Y Tawny on each table as a centerpiece and if guests opt to open and pour it, who am I to stop them?

Re: News about my "DD"
That would require a list of potential dates:SushiNorth wrote:What port should I serve at a wedding?
Your birth year.
Y's birth year.
The year you met.
The years that the two of you graduated high school/college/post-grad.
It would be terribly convenient if you met in 2007, as those are so young as to not really need decanting.

...You know what's a shame?
that portugal doesn't allow port houses to sell double magnums and bigger.

Re: News about my "DD"
all of the convenient dates have been considered; i could possibly do a 95 but that seems a little pointless (better to do a 20Y T at that rate). At the same time, I have about a case of SW83, GC80, Ch85, and Cr00. None of these are of convenient years, and i fear all would take a while to decant.Glenn E. wrote:That would require a list of potential dates:SushiNorth wrote:What port should I serve at a wedding?
Your birth year. - 74
Y's birth year. - 76

Re: News about my "DD"
You could use the Roots Method TM (c) of splitting the difference, giving you a 1975 vintage. OK, so there are better but there must be some gems out there (NB: not Fonseca).

Re: News about my "DD"
Pointless? Not at all - there are many excellent 1995s. Vesuvio leaps to mind immediately. It has often been theorized that 1995 would have been generally declared had it not followed 1994, and from what I have experienced it was certainly good enough to be generally declared.SushiNorth wrote:i could possibly do a 95 but that seems a little pointless (better to do a 20Y T at that rate).
If you're worried about decanting, just get a bunch of cheap glass water pitchers.

Re: News about my "DD"
Indeed. Perhaps it is worth remembering that during a blind tasting of the following wines: 1977 Morgan; 1975 Croft; 1970 Morgan; 1977 Fereira; 1970 Kopke Quinta St Luiz; 1975 Noval; 1977 Kopke Quinta St Luiz; 1970 Sandeman, a reader who shall remain anonymous, but is know for his zero-valuing of '75s, voted 1975 Croft as WOTN, followed by the 1975 Quinta do Noval...KillerB wrote:You could use the Roots Method TM (c) of splitting the difference, giving you a 1975 vintage. Having looked through the TNs I would say that the Croft looks like the prime candidate.JacobH wrote:Indeed.
