2000 Niepoort vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep colour, opaque. Subdued on the nose, but showing some blackcurrant. Soft and restrained entry, very slow to show any fruit but big tannins grab the teeth and gums and don't let go. Fruit does come trhough eventually to give a lovely soft presence. Nice balancing acidity is also present. Concentrated black wine gums on the aftertaste and a long, dry-tannin finish on the inside of the mouth. A big and lovely port. 89/100. Drunk 13 October 2011.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
