ThePortForum.com Upgrade
ThePortForum.com Upgrade
The Port Forum will be moving to a new server and will undergo a software upgrade on Sunday 4th February 2012.
To allow this work to take place the forum will be off-line from approximately 18:00 on that day until the upgrade is finished. It is anticipated that the forum will be unavailable for somewhere between one and twenty four hours.
Apologies for any inconvenience this might cause, such as having to spend time with your family on a Sunday evening, but it is essential that this upgrade takes place to allow us to turn off the flood of Spam that is currently blocking the new user registration process.

This is happening on Sunday 5th February, not 4th February.

Re: ThePortForum.com Upgrade
Congratulations, DRT, and thanks for the hard work in doing the transfer
Re: ThePortForum.com Upgrade
I have made only one attempt without changing anything on my phone, but in that one attempt I was unable to use Tapatalk to access the forums. I'm not that familiar with the software, but I'll see if I can find any settings/etc that might help me "reset" the connection with TPF.

Re: ThePortForum.com Upgrade
If I remember correctly, tapatalk requires an extra module which is probably no longer be installed since DRT used a fresh install of phpbb. It should be quite easy to re-add it.
Re: ThePortForum.com Upgrade
There was a minor hiccup in the transfer last night which caused me to re-build from a backup of the new installation. I suspect that I have forgotten to copy the Tapatalk files across to the new installation so will do so this evening.
Apologies for the oversight.

Off topic, but I am keen for someone to walk me through the merits of tapatalk at an upcoming tasting - when i have tried it in the past, i have quickly abandoned it in favour of just accessing the normal website via my mobile.Glenn E. wrote:I have made only one attempt without changing anything on my phone, but in that one attempt I was unable to use Tapatalk to access the forums. I have now copied the Tapatalk files across. Can someone please test this again and report back?

Re: ThePortForum.com Upgrade
Shortly after we upgraded a problem was discovered that was causing the anti-spam settings on the registration page to fail to work properly. This problem is related to the "Style" software that controls the appearance of the site, which now needs to be upgraded to ensure it is compatible with the core software.
A new copy of the default Style has been created, but is not yet perfect. That style is now in use for when unregistered users (mostly Spammers) visit the site for the first time. This allows the anti-spam feature to work properly.
However, this means that if you visit the site but are not logged on the forum will appear to be slightly different to normal. Once you login the usual style will be seen.
Once the new style is finished, which will look exactly the same as the normal one, we will implement it for all users. You will still have the ability to select an alternative style using the User Control Panel.

Re: ThePortForum.com Upgrade
One final task in moving to its new home remains to be done. Within the next couple of days the registration of the domain name will move from one ISP to another. This will possibly cause a temporary interruption whilst the domain name servers sort themselves out to point at the new location.
We have no way of predicting exactly when this will happen or how long any blip might be, so apologies in advance if vanishes for a short time.

In case my post was missed in 'Site Stuff' it appears the 'post counter' has stopped working.

Reply to test the counter, which before this post showed DRT as having made 7843 posts.

This shows a count of 7846...your next post where you say 'it works for me' also shows a count of 7846...should that not be 7847?DRT wrote:Reply to test the counter, which before this post showed DRT as having made 7843 posts.
