Having opened a rank bottle of cheap claret the other night my wife insisted I find something else. Due to poor planning on my part I had to open what rather over the top (for a weeknight) bottle of North American wine? No year needed.

Not Mondavi. (edit; forgot it wasn't your turn)
I too know next to nothing about American wines but this is something I came to young and still love with a passion. Not as preposterously priced as some top rank Californians either.

And why not share with all of us the owls and nightingales thing, I know Daniel was interested (but he may not be speaking to me due to my remark about wasting sweetness on desert air; if you're out there Daniel you know I still care)

Oh no! I have just realised that you guessed twice in a row. I am unsure what to do. We must present ourselves before the discipinary sub-comittee of the 'one quiz at a time' thread. I'm going to blame you.
Or we could just carry on as we were and forget it.
Thanks for the PM. I'm practising.

As I want to go to bed anyway (I'm one time zone ahead of the UK), I can live with a little delay.
I already have a question and would be ready to go if permitted to do so.
By the way, I explained the owls and nightingale proverb in the original thread:

Don't mind Roy. He's passionate about Port but is also American. Fortunately we are slowly getting him more British. Post as you like, Roy is only challenging your thinking in an attempt to make you think a little more deeply.LGTrotter wrote:Am I the only one who is a bit scared to post after Roy on port conversations? Glenn and Andy have already reached the status of honorary Brit. G-man doesn't put milk in his tea so can't be an honorary Brit yet.

I think that one of the old lags was suggesting a calculation of 3 a week to me in a previous post so that would be erm.. (you see now why I did not get into Julians question) 132, plus 60 for your birthday, so 192.

A mere 96? But you should know best. OK I will take a toned down 108. (unless 48 of them were tappit hens, isn't that just the best name in the world? I'll say it again Tappit hen).

Re: One quiz at a time
Although I am impressed by your ideas of both my capacity to drink and the size of my cellar, you're all still too high with your guesses.
Mind you, I did specify vintage port. A dozen of the bottles I have opened so far this year were LBV or Crusted.
I could also add that when drinking at home I will average 4-5 days to consume a bottle of port.

I have now finished listening to the rebroadcast of Orson Welle's War of the World's broadcast from 1938 - and thoroughly enjoyed it again. It's a while since I last heard it.
And my laptop battery is down to 12% and will shortly start beeping at me. It is time for me to retire for the night. More answers tomorrow (when I am holiday for the day).
Goodnight all.
Owen - no asking a question until you have the correct answer!! And I'm ignoring JDAW's ridiculous attempt at humour. Pah!
